What makes us unique
We source 100% grass-fed and grass finished tallow from local farms in the Shoalhaven. Unlike other brands, we take the time to purify our tallow for up to 7 days, hand-cutting the suet, and using a slow process with filtered water and unrefined salt to remove impurities.
We don't use plastic packaging, artificial fragrances, or fillers, and take pride in our commitment to quality and sustainability.

FAQ
What is tallow, and why is it good for your skin?
Tallow is simply rendered beef fat. Its fatty acids closely match your skin's natural sebum, helping support the skin barrier. It also contains vitamins A, D, E and K, which support moisture retention, elasticity and healthy cell turnover. Unlike water-based creams that can leave a surface film, tallow nourishes the barrier so moisture can lock in.
Is tallow safe for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
Yes. Grass-fed tallow is generally well tolerated because it is similar to the oils your skin naturally produces. It can moisturise without trapping bacteria or over-drying the skin. If your skin is especially reactive, start with our Classic Tallow Balm, made with purified tallow and no carrier or essential oils.
What makes The Cow Balm different from other skincare brands?
Everything is made on the NSW South Coast in small batches, using 100% grass-fed and grass-finished tallow from Shoalhaven farms.
Is your tallow ethically and sustainably sourced?
Yes. Our tallow comes from local grass-fed and grass-finished cattle. Using tallow honours the whole animal by putting a nourishing ingredient to good use.
Can I use tallow balm on my face and body?
Absolutely. Use it on the face, neck, hands, elbows and lips. Warm a small amount between your fingertips and massage it in. Whipped Tallow spreads easily over larger areas, while Classic Balm is ideal for smaller, drier patches.
How long does tallow skincare last, and how should I store it?
Our products contain no synthetic preservatives and stay stable for around 12 months when kept cool, dry and out of direct sunlight. A jar of Classic Balm generally lasts two to three months with daily use.
Does it smell like meat?
No. We purify our tallow multiple times to remove any beef smell, leaving a faint, neutral scent that most people describe as slightly milky.
The makers
Lorena & Bailey
We're Lorena and Bailey, a young couple that spends most of our days under the sun, making our skin work hard under the elements.
Lorena is an environmental scientist, and applies science and sustainability to her tallow making. She always felt like she was behind with her skincare, seeing multiple step routines advertised everywhere. Tallow brought to her a simple, consistent habit of looking after herself. Bailey changed his journey with eczema after using tallow.
Tallow has been used to nourish skin since ancient civilizations (literally, since ancient Egypt!), long before complicated products from the modern beauty industry. It actually helps your skin to repair itself, instead of just giving instant relief.
Lorena makes it all herself slowly, by hand. Bailey is the #1 product tester, and marketing and fulfilment supporter.
